My Story

I am a follower of Jesus Christ, which is the motivation behind everything that I do.  I am moved into action to combat the sex slave trade and slavery worldwide.  I've learned about the Fair Trade movement that combats slavery on farms and factories. I've started buying fair trade coffee, sugar, and chocolate, because these are 3 slave produced crops around the world and I buy organic products which support sustainable farming practices. I am working on plans to open a Fair Trade bakery in order to raise awareness about human trafficking and to provide delicious, organic baked goods to my community

I'd struggled with my health over the last 2 years.  I discovered that my health issues were due to an allergy to soybeans and since I've eliminated soy from my diet, my health has improved.  I've been able to get my health on track by cooking from scratch because most processed, conventional foods contain soy.  I love to cook from scratch because cooking has been a part of my life since I was a child.  I am also writing a cookbook and my hope is to be published one day so I can use the proceeds in the fight to end slavery.  I want to use what I love to help fight a cause that has had an impact on my heart.

Since I recently discovered that I am allergic to soybeans, I have been researching why soy is in so much of our food.  I've found out that most of the soybeans, corn, canola, sugar beets, and cottonseed are genetically modified.  There are a lot of questions about whether GMOs are safe for humans to eat and not much research has been done to show that we should be eating these types of  products.  I want to know what kinds of foods will benefit me the most and what are the best options for my family.  I've been striving to be the healthiest that I can be by buying minimally processed, organic foods.  I believe, in order to get the most out of this body that God has given me, I should put only the best sources of energy and vitamins into my body.  I have never felt this good before in my life.  Since eliminating soy and gmos from my diet, I am exercising and I have the energy to take care of my family when I didn't have the energy for either before.  Not only am I on a mission to raise awareness of modern day slavery, I am also on a mission to raise awareness of genetically modified foods. As consumers, we need to be informed about what is in the food we are eating, we need to be mindful of what we are feeding our souls, and we need to make sure to exercise our minds by challenging ourselves in new and exciting ways.
I am looking forward to what is in store for me this coming year!
